Keeping a retail location safe for customers and staff can sometimes mean completing projects that are a little different to the norm. Recently, we undertook a fire safety project for a well-known fashion retail brand at one of their properties. The tasks involved were far removed from a standard process. This project became a great example of our efforts in delivering fire safety to retail.
The property was an old building that housed a stock room which was potentially a fire hazard. To improve safety it was proposed they have a fire refuge on the third floor. This would take over from a shared fire exit route that could not be used.
As part of the review a passive fire risk assessment was conducted. This helped to determine the integrity of the current set up in the building. This involved reviewing safety hardware in place around the property. Also, we inspected the construction of the walls and specification of the fire doors in place. With the risk assessment completed, the client was able to make an informed decision about the fire refuge.
Fire safety within properties has never been more scrutinised. But with our experience and network of vetted trades the project ran smoothly. It was also completed to the complete satisfaction of both the customer and local inspectors.
