Do you know who is in your store?

Getting data about the people entering your locations can help you improve your operations. Here’s how.

Do you know how many people are walking into your retail locations? If not, you could be missing a great way to bring in extra revenues.

Knowing when and how many people enter your locations can help you to plan many aspects of your retail operations. Here’s some examples of the benefits of using people counters.

Get a view of visitor rates over time.

By seeing when visitor rates peak during each day of the week, you can adjust your staff to ensure the best customer service can be given.

Discover your most profitable trading times

You can match up visitor numbers with your takings during the same period to see when you bring in the most revenue.

Find what marketing activities work best

A people counter can help you understand what marketing activities are most effective. For example, what is the effect of a new window display, a new advert on a billboard nearby, or a radio / television advert.

Compare traffic between locations

If you have multiple locations, people counters give you valuable data of footfall for each property on the same days.

Talk about the weather

You can even compare visitor rates against the weather to see if rain, sun or particular temperatures brings more people in.

By bringing this information together, you can be more effective in your plans. And you can achieve improved revenues, growing your retail business.

How do people counters work

Introducing a form of people counting into your retail location used to be quite an involved process, with boxes needing to be connected to power and a network in order to monitor and record throughput. This could pit them out of reach of many smaller or boutique retailers. The cost of the hardware, installation, and monitoring software made them a tool that gave great information, but at a price too.

Now however, Store Maintenance provides a cost-effective people counter solution which delivers the essential data you need. It is simple to install, robust and long lasting in operation, and the information it gathers can be reviewed using standard software you can use at low cost or even for free.

How does a people counter work?

A people counter solution from Store Maintenance is easy to operate. It works by laying a beam across your entrance, which people trip when entering and leaving. The beam can be bi-directional to record if your customers are coming in or going out. No need to worry about counting over long distances either. The counter beam can operate up to 8m. Plus, it can detect interferences such as infrared door closers or EAS tags.

You have two options with the data the solutions gathers. Either the data can be transmitted to a computer, or it can be retained and downloaded via a SUB key. In either case, the information is held securely to stop unauthorised access.

This information is provided in the common csv format. This allows it to be displayed in any off the shelf analysis software such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. The solution itself is powered by batteries with an average life of up to two years. So you can install without the hassle of connecting them to your mains, and not need to worry about regularly changing the batteries either.
